Columbus's Voyage
Columbus was looking a route to India to make trading with them easier. so he set sail going the opposite way not knowing that North and South America would be in his way. When he landed in the Carribean islands. He thought he was in India and when he met a group of people he called them Indians because of where he thought he was. It was important because it triggered other explorations. -

Cortes Voyage
He conquered present day Mexico city and the tribe he conquered was the Aztecs and their leader Montezuma. it was important because he found gold and brought it back to his rulers and that spiked the interest of other countries. -

Pinedas Voyage
Pineda's job was to find a water route to the Pacific Ocean. He was also the first to map the Gulf Coast from Florida to Texas. He possibly could have discovered the Rio Grande. It was important because his map of the coast led to others exploring the land as well. -

DeVaca Voyage Start Day
His leader was originally Narvez. The purpose of the expidition was to explore Texas and find resources if needed. (gold) DeVaca reported that Texas was a good place to be because of the legends of Cibola that he was told about. -

DeVaca Discovers Texas
A storm occured and his men were swept along the waves and brought into the coast by a gale. Only 80 men had survivied from the storm. He was there for about 6 years and most of his men died during the first winter. -

Fray Marcos and Esteban Journey
The purpose of the journey was to study the land to the North anf to verify that in fact the cities of gold, the cibola, were true. They explored Texas and New Mexico. Reported: They were told of a city of gold that looked larger than Mexico City. Then conquistador Coronado was sent to find the Golden City. -

Moscoso' Expedition
The leader was De Soto. The purpose of this expedition was to search for gold. He discovered the Mississippi River and explored Florida to Texas. His report was about the same as Coronado said which is that the land offers nothing for the spanish. No gold, harsh land and difficult Indians. Spain would not return for another 150 years because of these reports. -

Coronado's Expedition
The purpose of his journey was to find the 7 cities of Cibola. He explored 5 states lookin for the cities of Cibola. When he found it it turned out to be nothing more than a poor village. He was enraged and the indians had to suffer. Then he was told of the city of Quivera with streets of gold and run by Amazon women. They took a Turk with them to find the city. when they got there it was the same deal it was worthless so he strangled the Turk. The importance was to find the cities of Cibola
