Birth
Joseph Brant was born in ohio country. He was part of the Mohawk nation. Nickname: Thayendanegea which means "he who places two bets." -
Seven years War.
At the age 15, Joseph took part in a lot of important military actions in Seven years War. It was fought between France and england forces. For there service in this war, Joseph and 181 other indians got silver medals.He got the position of captain in the British army. He dedicated his life to the Native American sovereighty and land. -
Fierce Warrior
After the war he was rewarded most fierce warrior and brilliant tactician. He influenced a lot of indian tribes to fight with him in the seven years war. He also was the notably in Great Britain. Joseph met alot of magnificient people at his age. Such as American president George Washinton and English King George III. -
Translation
In 1765 Joseph Brant translated the american bible and and other religous bibles from mohawk language to English language. He spent a very long time translating all the religous mohawk bibles to english. -
Education
Joseph Brant attended school in Lebon, connecticut at Moor's Charity school for Indians. He learned how to speak English there. He studied Western History and Literature. He later became an Interpreter for an Anglican Missionary. -
Marriage
Joseph Brant married three times. His first wife was named Margaret. Margaret is the daughter of an Oneida chief. They had 1 daughter and 1 son named Isaac and Christine. Joseph's second wife Susanna died in 1777 and nothing is known about her. His third wife in 1780, named Chatherine AdonwentishoCroghan had a blood connection to the greatest Mohawk clan-Turtle clan. They had 3 sons and 4 daughters. -
Mohawk Valley
At the start of 1778 spring, Joesph Brant's forces continued to go throught the Mohawk Valley and they kept stealing the cattle from the American's and they were burning their houses down to the ground and killing many of the Americans. -
City of Brantford
The city of Brantford was named after Joseph Brant. The first protesteant church built in Brantford belonged to the native people so only they were aloud in the church. The river next to the city of Brantford was called ''Highway of the Iroquis" the native people named it that. -
Death
Joseph Brant died in lake Ontario at his home at age 64. His last words were ''Take pity on the indians; if you can get any influence with the great, endeavour to do them all the good you can.'' Today he is known and remembered as one of the greatest leaders of the Native American Indians. -
Joseph Brant museum
This museum was named after Joseph Brant. It was opened o the public on May 22,1942. After all these years the museum has been providing new things about Joseph Brant like personal artifacts owned and used by him. The museum says that this museum is used for ''Ideas that inspire within and beyond our borders."
