Military Deployment
In December of 1944, Billy is deployed in an infantry regiment in Luxembourg. He was given the position of chaplain's assistant as a replacement for his predecessor. As chaplain's assistant, he does not have the proper gear to be in war and is not given a weapon. He is seen as useless in his group and pushed around by some of the men in the regiment. -
First became unstuck in time
During his service in World War II, Billy Pilgrim first became unstuck in time. As part of his delusions created to cope with his trauma, Billy thinks he has the ability to time travel. He cannot control it and just shifts from one time to another, reliving his past or seeing his future before it happens. The first time he time travels, he was in the war, being taken prisoner. -
Dresden Bombing
On this day, Billy lives through the destruction of the Dresden, Germany bombings by the Allied forces. Him and a few other people survived because they stayed underground in safe area. Around 135,000 people were killed during the short days of the total destruction of the city. -
Discharge from the Army
In 1945, after surviving WWII, Billy was given an honorable discharge from the military. Shortly after returning home, Billy attended the Ilium School of Optometry and continued to become a successful Optometrist. During his senior year at the school, he got engaged to Valencia, who he soon married and started a family with. -
Veteran's Hospital Stay
In 1948, shortly after graduating from Ilium School of Optometry, Billy thought he was going insane and checked him into the mental ward of a nearby veteran's hospital. There he met Eliot Rosewater, a fellow veteran and science fiction lover. He introduced Billy to Kilgore Trout, his favorite author, and converted Billy to the ways of science fiction. -
Meeting Trout
By accident, Billy came across his favorite author, Kilgore Trout, by driving down an alleyway. Trout had been working with a news company and managing the kids that delivered newspapers. Trout was confused that he had a fan, but him and Billy got along. Billy even invited him to his wedding anniversary. -
Abduction
On the night of his daughter's wedding, Billy was abducted by aliens. He was brought to the planet Tralfamadore and displayed naked in a zoo for the aliens to watch. They even brought him a female and forced them to reproduce for the entertainment of the Tralfamadorians. -
Plane Crash
Billy went on a trip with other Optometrists on a plane. Unfortunately the plane crashed, and he suffered major injuries. When Valencia found out, she was hysterical. She got into an accident on her way to Billy and ended up dying from Carbon Monoxide poisoning before getting to see her husband again. After recovering, he escaped to NYC where he finds books relating to his delusions and starts to realize he's delusional. -
Billy's Death
Billy died on February 13th, 1976. He was shot, like how Paul Lazzaro promised, though it is never revealed why.
