Time Warp to childhood and The War
Billy goes through a time warp where he is taken back to his childhood when he is on a family trip to the Grand Canyon. After this he is taken back to the war in 1945 where he and his fellow prisoners of war who were marched to a shed where they were officially accounted for and given dog tags with an ID number on them. These dog tags were perforated in the middle so they could be broken in two. One half of the tag was to mark the corpse and the other would mark the grave. -
Billy an Mr. Rosewater
Billy is taken out of the shed where he was housed because of an outburst and then is given a shot of morphine which triggers another time warp that takes him to the spring of 1948 where he is in a mental hospital for veteran's of WWII. in the bed next to his is Eliot Rosewater who had mistaken a 14 year old fireman for a German soldier and shot him. This had driven him to insanity. Billy was here because he couldn't come to terms with the senseless killing he saw in the firebombing of Dresden. -
Tralfamidorian Text
Billy reads the only earth novel one the ship and then is given a tralfamidorian book to read but he can't read it because he can't read the alien's language. The text is separated by stars and is read all at once rather than reading the words from left to right.
