Aurangzeb Declares Himself Mughal Emperor
"Aurangzeb had a somewhat hasty coronation on 27 Shaban (21 July) 1658, which was almost the last day before the holy month of fasting, Ramzan, but was chosen by his astrologers. However, due to the circumstances of his acquisition, and the fact that the actual Emperor Shah Jahan was still alive, Aurangzeb initially had some difficulties establishing the formal legality of his reign."

Attack on Shaista Khan

Treaty of Purandar
"Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb had sent Raja Jai Singh to fight against Shivaji. Jai Singh captured several forts of Shivaji and compelled him to sign the treaty. Shivaji waited on Jai Singh to fix up the terms of peace, which has come to be known as the treaty of Purandar (June 1665). Shivaji agreed to surrender 23 forts to the Emperor while the Emperor recognized Shivaji’s authority over 12 forts including Rajgarh and its revenue."

Shivaji is Arrested by Aurangzeb
"Shivaji was never in an actual prison but was residing in a royal guesthouse. He soon realized that he was heavily guarded and was effectively under house arrest. Neither did Aurangzeb grant him an interview, nor was he allowed to leave Agra. After three months of this impasse, in August, Shivaji planned his great escape."

Shivaji's Reconquest
