  • Billy's Beginning

    Billy Pilgrim, the protagonist, is born in Ilium, New York. He attended one semester of optometry college before being drafted for WWII.

  • Unstuck

    billy first becomes unstuck while he is on the battlefield up against a tree exhausted and cold he sees a purple light and jumps in time to random events in his life.

  • War Never Chages

    Roland Weary is severely beating Billy, and is just about to break his spine, when they get discovered by Germans who are in the process of "mopping up." The Germans loot them and escort them to a POW camp, where Billy and Roland meet the other POWs. The POWs are loaded onto a series of trains headed for Dresden, Germany.

  • Cattle Car

    Billy is back in the train car headed for Dresden. Roland Weary dies of gangrene. The train stops in a prisoner camp, where Billy meets another man who is involved in the climax of the story: "Poor Old" Edgar Derby, who gets executed by firing squad in Dresden for looting a teapot from the ruins.

    Billy, having just gotten out of the shower at the POW camp, witnesses a German soldier beating a POW after he makes a rude remark. The two repeat the conversation Billy had with the Tralfamadorians

    1965-Billy is 49 years old. He visits his "antique mother" in a senior citizen home.
    1958-Billy blinks in 1965 and jumps to where he is at a banquet for Ilium's little league baseball team, in which his son Robert is a member.
    1961-He jumps from 1958 to a point where he was at a optometrist party where he was grossly drunk and ends up blacking out that night. Continued...

    Encounters

    The war was almost over, back when they are first captured by the Germans. Billy and his fellow POWs get on a train finally headed for Dresden. One POW, Lazzaro, tells Billy that Roland died because of him, and that Lazzaro was going to hire a hitman to shoot him for it. Billy remembers that this indeed is the way he dies, having witnessed his own death several times.

    1944- Back in 1944 during his jumps he is awoken by violent shaking from weary where he explains that if they don't move the Germans will find them because their squad ditched the two of them.
    1957-Billy is elected president of the Lions Club. Suddenly, he blinks and is in 1944 again, about to be severely beaten by weary to try and ensure they are not found by the enemy

  • Discharge

    Billy is honorably discharged from the military, returns to Ilium, and marries the daughter of the founder of the Ilium School of Optometry.

  • Bombing of Dresden

    During a lecture given by an American Nazi to the POWs to convince them to join the cause, Dresden's air raid sirens go off. 100 or so Americans and their guards flee to the underground meat locker.

  • Discovery

    Discovery of Kilgore Trout's work and literacy ideals

  • Meeting

    Ends up coming face to face with trout and talking to him about moments in life and literacy

  • A known Abduction

    Billy is abducted by Tralfamadorians. Knowing exactly when he'll be abducted, because he's already seen it before, he decides to watch a movie an hour before the abduction. The movie plays backward.

  • Additions to the zoo

    Inside the Tralfamadorian zoo, the human enclosure gets another resident: a movie star named Montana.

  • Flashback

    Billy ends up back on the flying saucer of the aliens after the cattle car, Tralfamadorians see time "Like a stretch of the Rocky Mountains," and don't believe in free will, as they see and know everything that will ever happen in their lives. The novel goes into details of what the Tralfamadorians believe in and their ideals of thinking

    Billy, after returning home from the hospital, drives to NYC to be on a late-night radio talk show, where he discusses how he came unstuck in time. He also went into detail of how he was abducted by aliens called "Tralfamadorians"

  • Escorted

    As soon as Billy goes back to work at his optometry office, he gets escorted out by security after he tells a patient his seemingly crazy story of being abducted by aliens who live in four dimensions.

  • Plane Crash

    Billy is involved in a plane crash that kills everybody on the plane except for him leaving him in a state of guilty, he was transported to a hospital

  • Billy's End

    Billy was killed in Chicago, he was shot by a hitman that was hired by Lazzaro. Foreseen this event and accepted it
