Rutherford was the fifth child born into his family. Sophia Birchard Hayes was his mother and he was born two months after the death of his father Rutherford Hayes. He was born in Delaware, Ohio. -
Graduated from Kenyon College
On August 4, 1842 Rutherford graduated from Kenyon College studying law at the top of his class. He went to college to one day become a lawyer and so he could be more educated for the future governmental positions that he held. -
Graduated from Harvard Law School
In January of 1845 Rutherford graduated from Harvard Law School with legume baccalaureus degree. He went to Harvard so he could become a lawyer and to learn more about laws. -
Got married
On December 30, 1852 in Cincinnati, Ohio Rutherford got married to Lucy Hayes, who was a very well educated women for her time. They stayed together for the rest of their lives and had eight kids together that they raised together. -

On November 4, 1853 Birchard Austin Hayes was born. He was born into his family of his father Rutherford and his mother Lucy. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio where he grew up for the majority of his childhood. -

Rutherford B Hayes became the city solicitor of Cincinnati after the last one died and he got appointed by the Cincinnati City Council and served one full term before fighting in the Civil War. -

On June 24, 1858 Rutherford Platt Hayes was born. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Throughout his life he associated with banks and became a cashier. He helped get his bank through the Panic of 1893 successfully. -

On December 21, 1861 Joseph Thompson Hayes was born. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Lucy described Joseph as a miniature Rutherford and got called "Little Joe" by his brothers. -
Wounded left arm at South Mountain
On September 24, 1862 Hayes got hurt at South Mountain. He said that he felt a stunning blow in his left arm just above his elbow. Shortly after, he found a musket ball in his arm. After the battle was over, Haye's brother-in-law dressed his wound and got him onto a ambulance to go to the nearest hospital. He recovered. -
4th Son's Death
On June 24, 1863 Rutherford B. Hayes son Joseph Thompson Hayes passed away. Rutherford B Hayes believed Joseph died from teething complications. He was buried at Spiegel Grove in Fremont, Ohio. -
Birth of fifth child
On September 29, 1864 George Crook Hayes was born. George was born in Chillicothe, Ohio and was named after Rutherford's favorite General, General George Crook. Rutherford described George as the most promising child that him and Lucy have had. . -
Got into the House of Representatives for Ohio
He got inaugurated into the house of representatives for Ohio where he stayed for 2 years. He stayed in the House of Representatives for as long as he could, however he lost his seat in the House of Representatives after just 2 years. -
Resigned from Army
On June 8, 1865 Rutherford B Hayes resigned from the army after serving since 1861. He left the army because the American Civil War had ended and Hayes wanted to go and do something else with his life. -
Fifth Son's Death
On May 24, 1866 Rutherford B. Haye's son George Crook Hayes died. He wasn't even two. His cause of death was scarlet fever. Hayes described George as the most promising child that him and Lucy have had and mourned George's death very harshly. -
Mother's Death
On October 30, 1866 Rutherford B. Haye's mother Sophia Birchard Hayes died. She died of old age. Sophia outlived her husband Rutherford who died ten weeks before Rutherford B. Hayes was born. -
Birth of sixth child
On September 2, 1867 Fanny Hayes was born. She was born by Cincinnati, Ohio. She is the only daughter out of Rutherford's 8 kids. She was born while Rutherford was serving his second term in Ohio's congress. -
Ohio Governor
On January 13, 1868 Rutherford B Hayes became Ohio's governor. He served 3 terms of 2 years as their governor. While the governor, Rutherford worked hard for the ratification of the 15th amendment. He didn't finish his third term due to getting elected the 19th President of the United States. -

On February 8, 1871 Scott Russell Hayes was born. He was born in Columbus, Ohio where his father was serving as Ohio's governor. He is the youngest of Rutherford's kids that reached adulthood. -

On August 1, 1873 Manning Force Hayes was born. He is the only of Rutherford's children that is born at Spiegel Grove in Fremont, Ohio. He was named after Rutherford's longtime friend, General Manning Force. -
Uncle's Death
On January 21, 1874, Sardis Birchard died. Sardis acted as a father figure for Rutherford and helped to raise Rutherford whenever he could. His cause of death is unknown. He died at 70 years old. -
Youngest Son's Death
On August 28, 1874 Rutherford B. Hayes youngest son Manning Force Hayes died tragically just 27 days after his first birthday. He most likely died of a dysenteric disease however his father called it a "summer compliant." -
Private Inauguration
Rutherford B. Hayes had his private inaguration at the White House. It was private because of many death threats to the new president. He got many death threats due to alleged fraud in the election, considering he lost the popular vote but won the electoral college vote. -

On April 5, 1878 Rutherford B. Hayes and his wife started the Easter Egg Roll Tradition at the White House. It has been going on every year in the White House since then and has became a big tradition that many people go to. On September 8, 1880, Rutherford B Hayes became the first president to visit the Pacific Coast while in office. He went to San Fransico. This was apart of his trip to try to unite the country after his very controversial election. -
Public Inauguration
On Monday, March 5, 1877 Rutherford took the oath of office. It was only the third time the republic fell on a Sunday. Rutherford B Haye's inauguration was in the White House Red Room. Two days earlier Hayes had a private ceremony before the public one. -
Vice President's Death
On June 4, 1887, William A Wheeler, Rutherford B. Haye's former vice president, died in New York City, New York. His cause of death was unknown. He was 67 years old. He got married at Morningside Cemetery in Malone, New York. -
Wife's Deathdate
On June 25, 1889, in Fremont, Ohio Lucy Hayes died. She died of a stroke. Lucy Hayes was buried in Spiegel Grove State Park in Fremont, Ohio. She was fifty-seven years old. -
Death
He got sick in Cleveland, where he told his son Webb to take him back to Fremont, Ohio where he died on January 17, 1893. He died of heart failure after a few days on bedrest surrounded by his family and close friends. He got buried in Spiegel Grove State Park in Fremont, Ohio.
