  • Birth

    Rudolf Carnap was a German Philosopher. He was born in Ronsdorf, Germany.
  • Education

    Between the years of 190-1914 carnap studied at the Universities of Jena, and Freigurg im Beisgau. While at Jena, he studies under Gottlob Frige. Carnap's schooling was cut short during this time due to world war I. he returned to school In 1917, and moved to Berlin to study the theory of relativity, Where Albert Einstein was the professor of physics at the University of Berlin. He developed his dissertation of the theory of space and time. it was published in 1922 in an issue of Kant-Studien
  • Contributions to philosophy of science

    In 1926 Carnap was made a member of the Vienna Circle, who were made up of mathematicians, philosophers met to discuss philosophical issues. through the discussions of the group came the beginning of logical positivism, and logical empiricism. Between 1930-1939 Carnap also had a hand in creating a periodical called Erkenntis. it was a forum for Scientific Philosophy.

    In this work, Carnap developed a new version of the empiricist reducibility thesis. In the 1940's he wrote several books on semantics. One was the Formalization of Logic(1942), another was Meaning and Necessity(1943). he spent his last days working on the structure of scientific theories.

    Rudolf Carnap died September 14, 1970 in Santa Monica California
