Augustus Caesar
Augustus Caesar was the first ruler of Rome. He is said to be the greatest ruler of all in ancient Rome. He was often referred to as Octavius and is descended from Julius Caesar. Augustus had 2 kids. -

Tiberius
Tiberius was the second ruler of Rome and ruled for 23 years. Tiberius did not want to follow in his fathers footsteps. His parents divorced when he was 4 years old which contributed to his rough childhood. Tiberius also hated his wife!! -
Period: 37 to 41
Caligula
Caligula ended the treason trials that were instituted by Tiberius. Caligula became very paranoid and instituted a series of purges against people who he suspected to be enemies. He also really loved his horse and gave it bejeweled collars. -
Period: 41 to 54
Claudius
Claudius was Caligula's uncle and the 4th Ruler of Rome. Claudius was always thought of as dumb and dimwitted. His own grandmother couldn't stand to look at him in the face. Caligula drooled and limped around and was often bullied and scoffed at as an Emperor, but despite all of this Caligula enjoyed writing histories and reading. So he was much smarter than most knew. -

Nero
Emperor Nero was the last of the Julio-Claudians to rule the Roman Empire. Nero was said to be self indulgent and cruel which was probably caused by his father. Historians believe this because there is a story of Nero's father deliberately running over a young boy with his chariot plus multiple other events similar to this that state he was not a good person. Nero loved singing and playing his lyre but he had a very bad voice. Also Nero killed his mother. -

Galba
Galba was the 6th ruler of Rome. Galba had a very severe form of arthritis that prohibited him from wearing shoes. Galba was the governor of Africa for a while before becoming Ruler of Rome. His brother killed himself when he was younger. Galba was completely bald and was only married once. -
Period: 69 to 69
Otho
Otho was born in Ferentinum in Etrusia and was the youngest of two older siblings. He was the illegitimate son of Tiberius. Otho gained most of his political success from being good friends with Nero. As emperor Otho re-instituted the gladiator games. -

Vitellius
Vitellius was the 8th Ruler of Rome. He spent most of his youth with Roman Emperor Tiberius. He became the favorite of three other emperors (Nero, Caligula, and Claudius). He was the Minister of Public Works and governor-general of Africa. Vitellius only ruled for 8 months before being tortured and killed. -
Period: 69 to 79
Vespasian
Vespasian was the Emperor who killed and tortured Vitellius. Vespasian had two sons and a daughter (but his daughter died at infancy). He ruled for ten years. -
Period: 79 to 81
Titus
Titus was the son of Vespasian and took over rule after he died. Most of Rome hated Titus before he became ruler. Titus played the harp and sang. He ruled for only 2 years before being killed by his brother. -
Period: 81 to 96
Domitian
Domitian's reign, although one of mostly peace and stability, became engulfed in both fear and paranoia. He was killed by his family. Domitian was the last in the Flavian Dynasty.
