In 1995, he became Switzerland's #1 Junior player, and was chosen to train at the Swiss National Tennis Centre, This showed that Federer had great promise, and that he had a very good chance in turning pro (which he did).

    Pete Sampras was the seven time reigning champion at Wimbledon, but was knocked out of the competition in 2001 by Roger Federer in the 4th round. Federer wasn't a very well known tennis player at the time, so this victory against a champion gained hime lots of attention. It also showed people that even the best can be beaten sometimes.

    This was Federer's first big tournament win in the Wimbledon singles championship. This helped launched his career as a pro, and got his homecountry some recognition, as he was the first Swiss man to win a Grand Slam title in history.

    After getting popular. Federer founded the Roger Federer foundation to help disadvantaged children who can't afford an education. This act of kindness and generosity showed that he could be a good person both on, and off the court.
  • #1 Player in the world

    #1 Player in the world
    In 2004, Federer moved up to being the #1 player in the world, and held that position for 4 consecutive years, until it was taken by Rafael Nadal. Federe later regaigned the position numerous times after, but had rivalries with other players such as Rafa Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. Being #1 made Federer very popular, and got him several business deals with Nike and Wilson.

    Federer won three of the four grand slam tournaments, lost to no one ranked in the top ten, and won every final he reached. After this huge lead, he was named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year. It was one of his first titles achieved after turning pro, besides the ones for matches he'd previously won such as Wimbledon.

    This was one of Federer's last title win, as his previous wins were a result of Rafa Nadal's absence. When Nadal returned, Federer moved back down in rank to #2. This began a chain of events that would cause Federer to decline slightly in his career, as he would move down to rank even #7 at one point.

    For all of the great things that he had done such as Grand Slam victories, leadership, and charity work, Federer was named the 2010 Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. Many pro athletes were only known for their skill in the sport, but this showed how human Federer could be off the court.

    After having many big victories in the past years, Federer began to decline in his proffesional career, shown by his loss to Sergiy Stakhovsky in the second round at Wimbledon. Sergiy was only ranked 116th at the time, so this was a big surprise to everyone. This showed that Federer wasn't invincible, and that even he had vulnerabilities and bad seasons.
