At the age 17, Stevenson enrolled at Edinburgh University to study engineering, with the goal of following his father in the family business as Lighthouse designers. -
First Love
In 1873, he visited a married cousin in Suffolk, Eng., where he met Sidney Colvin. Sitwell drew him out and won his confidence.tevenson was deeply in love, and he wrote her a series of letters. Eventually that passion turned into a lasting frindship. -
Law School
Stevenson lost interest in the family business and decided to go into law. -
When RLS decided to become a writer.
After touring France, Stevenson became fond of the writers, artists, and painters. He then emerged from law school and became a writer. -
Fanny Osbourne
In the month of September of 1876, Stevenson met teh love of his life but she was married. The brightside was she was in the middle of divorcing her husband. -
An Inland Voyage
In 1878, Stevenson published his firsst work , An Inland Voyage.This book was about his trip from Antwerp to northern France, which he made in a canoe. -
Stevenson and Osbourne
Since 1878, Both Stevenson and Osbourne began to see each other romantically while she stayed in France. Until 1880 is when they finally got married. -
New Arabian Nights
Robert Louis Stevenson published his first short story "New Arabian Nights." Around this time all of England was introduced to the short story period whichinfluenced many writers in this period. -
Treasure Island
The idea of Stevenson's novel Treasure Island was inspired by a map that he had drawn for his 12-year-old stepson. -

After Stevenson's marriage, he took his wife to an abandoned silver mine in Napa Valley, California where he created The Silverado Squatters. -

In 1886 RLS published Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and it became an instant hit. -
Father
In the year 1887, RLS's father passed away. Still troubled he traveled to the US to meet up with his wife. He then bought a yacht and cruised around the Pacific, stopping for stays at the Hawaiian Islands, where he became good friends with King Kalākaua. -
Rest In Peace
Robert Louis Stevenson died of a stroke on December 3, 1894, at his home in Vailima, Samoa. He was buried at the top of Mount Vaea, overlooking the sea.
