Will was found sitting on a door step as a baby. No one knew of his last name because the only message that was found said his name is Will. It also said his father died a hero and his mom died during birth, Will always wanders about his past throughout the book.

Choosing Ceremony

Will wishes to go to battle school, but he realizes he is too small to go to battleschool. Halt has some interest in the boy and gives a letter to Sir Rodney, this letter says Will is going to be Halts apprentice but the anticipation overtakes Will and he sneaks in and takes it, further showing off his skills.

Training and Horseback Riding

Halt teaches Will how to use certain weapons like a bow and throwing knives. Learning how to ride a rangers horse is very crucial because he must create a bond with his horse, Tug. Will finds it very hard at first but he eventually learns to control the horse.

Horace's training

Dec 16, 1250

Horace is quickly noticed throughout battle school because he is a natural warrior. One day during training, the training instructors noticed that he was mindlessly adding extra strokes to his routine which showed how good of a warrior he could possibly be.

Hog Hunting

Jan 15, 1251

Will and Horace have been enemies for awhile. There has been a wild and dangerous hog running and causing havoc. Will and Horace are the only apprentices on this hunt and Will saves Horace's creating their new friendship and bond.

The Reunion

Mar 5, 1251

Horace and Will and their other companions all come together after their months of training with their teachers. Horace is very frusturated with battle school because he is constantly being bullied but he refuses to tell other people.

Bullying

Horace excels in battle school but he has to deal with three bullies who hold him back from his potential. They are upper classmen and they are constantly beating him and forcing him to do embarassing things. Horace is afraid to tell anyone because he figured it was normal for this to happen in battle school.

Halts Past

May 20, 1251

Will learned of the evil king, Morgarath. Will also learned that his trainer, Halt, was the ranger who stopped his army from destroying their kingodm. Will does not know much about Halt but he is starting to learn skilled of a ranger Halt is.

The Gathering

Jun 30, 1251

Will arrives to a gathering where he is going to learn if he is able to become a ranger. As they were on their way they learned of a demon that has been targeting key figures in war, like kings and captains. Halt believes Morgarath is planning to start another war.

Horaces Revenge

Jul 13, 1251

The three bullies attempted to beat Will to get revenge on him saving Horace and embarassing the battle school trainees apparently. Horace stops them and they try to attack Horace but Halt stops them. Halt allows Horace to fight the bullies and he beats them up getting his revenge. The bullies were expelled from the kingdom.

Another Hunt

Aug 16, 1251

Halt and Will, with the company of two powerful knights, make an attempt to hunt down the assassins that have been killing key war figures. Will saves the knights and Halt from being killed by shooting the assassin with a burning arrow and catching it on fire.

The Celebration

Oct 2, 1251

Will is praised by all the kingdoms because he saves Sir Rodney and the Baron Arold from the assassin, they were the two knights accompanying him. The whole town is praising Will for his bold actions and he is seen as a hero.

An Amazing Offer

Oct 3, 1251

Out of praise from Will saving him, Sir Rodney offers Will a chance to go to battle school. Will releases how much his life has changed since his training began as a ranger, even though that's what he wanted to do all his life he politely declines the offer. He wishes to continue his training as a ranger.

Halt Smiles

Will has always known Halt to be a very serious person and did not like the fact how monotone and serious he is about everything. When Will chose to stay a ranger he found something very surprising as he was leaving the celebration. He noticed Halt was smiling at him and Will was shocked to see him doing this.
