This is significant because Othello is saying this quote just before he kills himself and after he kills Desdemona. He says it to try to justify his actions. Scholars think that this quote shows Othello's cool, calm and collected side and shows and that he has recovered from the jealous passion that drove him to kill his wife. He loved her in not a wisely fashion, but in a very deep manner that drove him to the extreme.
