The Start of a Journey
Sal has split up with his wife and meets the hero-like Dean Moriarty. They become friends and Sal admires Dean and his high energy. -
The Arrival
Sal gets on his way to Denver where he intends to meet up with Dean and the gang. Hitch hikes all the way there. Gets drunk with his friends. -
Trying to be a good Friend
Sal watches Remi lose all his money at the racetrack.
Sal agrees to be on his best behavior for Remi’s stepfather, but doesn't. Dissapoints REmi's stepfather. -
Taking steps forward
Sal realizes that Camille and Galatea are friends, and starts to realize that these women are actually people, with feelings and everything. He and Dean decide to go to Italy after having a Relationship role switch. -

Before Sal leaves New York, he and Dean make plans to be old together. Sal leaves New York. He doesn’t feel like he belongs anywhere. He meets Henry Glass, who is like Dean in some ways though not like Dean in many others. -
