During their time in the refugee camp World Relief sought to help refugees find new life in America. Mawi's father wrestled with this decision to come to america. The turning event for his decision is the well being of his wife and children. -
Adjustment Challenges
Mawi and his siblings struggled to fit in with other kids during school. They had terrible hardships with other races in America. -
Tewolde cares for a stranger
Tewolde had compassion for the unfortunate. Even though, he had little himself, he would continually give. He came across a stranger who lost hope and Tewolde strived to help the man in any way he was able. This left an impact on Mawi. -
Tewolde was killed
Tewolde was killed by a drunk driver half-way through his senior year of high school. -
Haileab's death
Mawi was with his father during his christmas break from school. Shortly after those two weeks his father was killed by a drunk driver. -

Mawi fulfilled the hopes and dreams of his parents, by getting one of the best educations offered. -

Mawi gets married in 2007; since, Mawi has had three children: two sons and a daughter.
