Avram Noam Chomsky was born in early December of 1928. He is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Elsie and Wiliam. -
School Editorial
At the age of 10, Noam wrote an editorial about the Spanish civil war and the rise of fascism. His research was so in-depth that it was used decades later in one of his own books. -
Early College Life
Th the age of 16, Noam attended the University of Pennsylvania. Two years later he met Zellig S. Harris (an American founder of structural linguistics). They took classes together and Harris recommended he study mathematics and philosophy. -

Noam married his childhood sweetheart Carol Doris Schatz. She is a linguist and education specialist. -

In 1952 Noam published his first academic article, Systems of Syntactic Analysis which was published in a peer-reviewed mathematic journal. In 1954 he started to give lectures on his ideas at the University of Yale and Chicago. In 1955, he received a Doctor of Philosophy degree because he submitted a thesis on his ideas on transformational grammar. -

Noam was doing a National Science Foundation fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Study. In 1959 he reviewed Skinner's book, Verbal Behavior, which argued against considering language as learned behavior. -

Life Achievements
Became a consultant on a miltary-sponsored project. In 1965 Noam published Aspects of the theory of Syntax. Which would provide an in-depth explanation of transformational generative grammar (TGG). He published two more books in the following years. -

A book published three essays on linguistics and he was able to add three more essays in 1972. -
Controversies
Noam signed a petition about freedom of speech for a french lecturer. The Lecturer denied the existence of chambers in concentration camps. He also wrote an essay in 2002 about the events on 911. -

Language
during the late '70s and '80s, he developed a solution using a theoretical framework known as P&P (principles and parameters). He introduced them into his 1981 and 1986 books. Principles are universal linguistics that is common in the natural language. Parameters are the options that can allow a variation in linguistic structure. -
