    Early Life

From a young age, Chomsky was destined for greatness, beginning his collegiate studies at the age of 16. Chomsky attended and received his Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1955, where he first presented his theory of transformational grammar and syntax.
  • Chomsky's Hierarchy

In 1956, Chomsky released a hierarchy of grammar. This hierarchy of formal language provided basic sentence structure rules such as the fact that works of literature are read from left to right.
  • Syntactic Structure

In 1957, Chomsky published his first book regarding linguistics, called "Synactic Structures." This was the first type of organizational method for language that broke sentences down into separate sections to better analyze human speech patterns. He also presented the idea that the meaning of sentences was independent of sentence structure. This discovery of knowledge about linguistics affected the way language is taught and percieved. [1]
