Tesla was born in a small village Smilijan, which is now in Croatia, on July 10, 1856, in the family of an Orthodox priest. -
Work
In 1882 he graduated from a prestigious university in Graz. By that time he was already invited to work in Paris for one large corporation.Soon he presented his first electric motor and got acquainted with Th. Edison. The later invited him to New York to work as an engineer, which was more than pleasant for the young inventor. Unfortunately the two talented inventors couldn’t work together and Tesla decided to quit. -
Laboratory
In 1888 he settled his own company and sold over 40 patents for large sums of money. Finally, he was financially free at the extent that he could devote more time to his beloved experiments.Almost 7 years he dedicated to experimenting with the magnetic field and high frequencies. -

In 1888-1895 Tesla was engaged in research of high-frequency magnetic fields. These years were the most fruitful: he received many patents for inventions. The leadership of the American Institute of electrical engineers[en] invited Tesla to give a lecture about his work. On may 20, 1892 he appeared before outstanding electrical engineers of that time and was a great success. -
Fire
On March 13, 1895, a fire broke out in a laboratory on Fifth Avenue. The building burned to the ground, destroying the latest achievements of the inventor.Tesla himself said that the memory can restore all their discoveries. -
Move
On may 18, 1899, at the invitation of a local electric company, Tesla moved to the resort town of Colorado springs, where he stayed for almost a year. He stayed at the hotel" Alta Vista", where he placed his office. -

On June 2, 1899, Tesla completed the construction of a wooden hangar measuring approximately 50 by 60 feet, about 18 feet tall, with two Windows and a large door. -

Nobel Prize
Tesla was nominated for a Nobel Prize in Physics -

On may 18, 1917, Tesla was awarded the Edison medal, although he strongly refused to receive it. -
Died
In the fall of 1937 in new York, Tesla was hit by a taxi when he crossed the road at night. He got his ribs broken. The incident caused acute pneumonia, which became chronic. Tesla was bedridden for several months and was able to get up again in early 1938.Nikola Tesla died on the night of 7 to 8 January 1943,at the age of 87.
