He graduated from junior high at the top level of his class. In 1946, he was arrested and convicted on burglary charges, and he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Malcolm began to study the teachings of NOI leader Elijah Muhammad. By the time he was paroled in 1952, he was a devoted follower with the new surname X.

Nation of Islam is an African-American religious movement happened in July 1930. He told his fellow followers and black people that they must prepare for an inevitable race war and that Christianity was the religion of slave owners. He gave his followers Arabic names to replace those that had originated in slavery.

    The main belief of The Nation of Islam is that there is no god but Allah. Their most important worship is praying five times a day. Many African-Americans regard the Nation of Islam as a Christian organization that is a positive motivating factor in the black community . One of the difference between Nation of Islam and mainstream Islam is that Nation Muslims view Elijah Muhammad as a messenger of God while Muslims believe that all prophecy ended with the Prophet Muhammad.

They preached devotion to a strict moral code and reliance on other African Americans. Black Muslims have financed the construction of mosques, schools, apartment complexes, stores, and farms.

He is disgusted and breaks all ties, then goes on the sacred muslim pilgrimage to mecca to find his inner calling. He then finds a way of peace and acceptance and non violent thinking after the travels.

    Million Man March was a political demonstration in Washington, D.C. to promote African American unity and family values. Most of the marchers were African American men, ranged from 400,000 to nearly 1.1 million. The event was organized by Louis Farrakhan, the often controversial leader of the Nation of Islam. Under his leadership, the Nation continued to promote social reform in African American communities in accordance with its traditional goals of self-reliance and economic independence.

Today’s Nation of Islam is a very vocal minority, and their only remaining power is to generate a sound bite on the evening news. Louis Farrakhan today uses Black Nationalism to try to justify black capitalism. The family march happened in 2000 hopes to focus national debates around issues that concern most of the families. Those issues include Social Security, domestic violence, education and health care.
