  • Bayley Scales of Infant Development

    Bayley Scales of Infant Development
    Reid had the Bayley Scales of Infant Development. This test has three main scales: cognitive scale, language scale and the motor scale (Page 154). Reid displayed typical emotional reactions for his age and was advanced in his gross and fine motor skills.
  • Baby Sister!

    Baby Sister!
    Reid recently got a baby sister! He was very curious up before his sister was born and my partner and I made sure to create an open environment where Reid could ask questions. At first, Reid displayed patterns of jealous behavior and was even aggressive when it came to sharing certain toys or even sharing attention (pp. 267-269). After a little time had passed, Reid eventually was very helpful and loving towards his new little sister, learning how to help and share.
  • Language Development

    Language Development
    Reid started learning new vocabulary a lot faster! He seems to be showing a vocabulary splurt. He started using "no" more often and won't stop! He starting show more sense of self and began using more words to express his emotions like tired and mad. He also started learning more colors and body parts. (Pages 194, 195).
  • Potty Trained!

    Potty Trained!
    After several months of practice and patience, Reid is finally potty trained! He began showing the key signs of toilet training such as staying dry for a couple hours a day, regular bowel movements, acknowledging urgency to go to the bathroom, asking directly to use the toilet (page 184).
  • Playing Soccer!

    Playing Soccer!
    Reid just started playing soccer! He had his first soccer practice and has started to interact with the kids on his team. His gross motor skills have developed allowing for greater balance, strength and coordination to help him kick the ball and run around (pp. 291-292). This has helped him to be active and burn off all of the extra energy he has! He has been interested in other sports and activites as well such as basketball.
  • Reid Starts Piano!

    Reid Starts Piano!
    Along with starting sports, Reid has taken an interest in playing piano. He has started taking lessons and really enjoys playing the piano and even makes his own "songs" and beats! He is developing is musical intelligence which is considered to be one of the 8 types of intelligences according to Gardner (p. 303). I believe that having a good musical intelligence as well as strengthening other areas will help Reid to become an intelligent child! (pp. 303-304).
  • Starting High School

    Starting High School
    As Reid starts high school soon, he will be facing new challenges and obstacles. He has already been showing signs of puberty. During this time, his body will go through changes and he will be going though hormonal changes such as increase in testosterone. Among other changes, he will face different social interactions especially with the opposite sex. (Pages 338-48).
  • Social Experimenting

    Social Experimenting
    Reid came home one night smelling like marijuana. He seems to be going through some social experimenting. He came back from a friend's hourse and displays signs of social substance use (page 353).
  • ACT/SAT

    ACT/SAT
    Reid did fairly well on his ACT and SAT's. He got within the top 15% for the verbal section and within the top 5%-10% in Math and Science. His good performance will help his studies in college. He wants to go to college and going to college will help him in the future and increase his chances of earning a higher wage. Page 421.
  • First Job

    First Job
    Reid is a very smart, prospective college student with the necessary skills to hold down a job. He applied to a local grocery store! Reid got his first job was even offered a promotion after a while. As an emerging adult, it is probably one of the few jobs that he will go through before finding a career. Pages 442-444
