Measurement of Pressure by Noah Becker

By Nogre
  • Galileo Gallilei

Born 1564, Devoloped the suction pump when he was 66 years old, in 1630. He used it to draw underground water to the surface.
  • Evangelista Torricelli

Born 1608, invented the barometer in 1643 when he was 35. He was the first to use mercury as a liquid in his experiments.
  • Otto von Guericke

Born 1602, developed the vacuum pump over the course of two years, 1643 to 1645. He was 41 years old during his creation time period.
  • Blaise Pascal

Born 1623, used the previously invented barometer to discover Atmospheric Pressure in 1648. He was 25 during these studies. The SI unit of pressure was named after him. The Pascal.
  • Christiaan Huygens

Born 1629, developed the manometer in 1661 when he was 32 years old.
  • John Dalton

Born 1766, created a hypothesis called "Partial Pressure" in 1801. The idea is that in a mixture of gases, the total pressure is equal to the sum of each induvidual gas. He was 35 years old at the time.
  • Joseph Louis Gay-Lussac

Born 1778, proved the law of combining volumes in 1808 when he was 30 years old.
  • Amadeo Avogadro

Born 1776, created the "Avogadro's Hypothesis". The idea is that the pressure in a container is directly proportional to the number of particles in that same container. This was in 1811 when he was 24 years old.
