Bailey shows that he loves the best part of the dinner and may be a bit greety when it comes to food.When the children go to church on Sundays Maya and Bailey hate Reverend Howard Thomas because he always eats the best part of sunday dinner when traveling to Momma's house -
Bailey's special christmas
Bailey and Maya are shocked that their parents sent them presents. For all their life, they never knew they had parents and to know this causes them to cry. (p. 52) -
Bailey's dad comes to town.
One year later, Marguerite and Bailey's father, Daddy Bailey, arrives to take them with him to California. (P. 54)

Bailey meets Maya in Hospital
After Maya was found out to be raped by Mr. Freeman, he stands by Maya and conforts her. After, he got the name of who raped her and they both cried together. -
Bailey and Maya return home
Bailey and Maya, after spending time with their parents, are put on a train to return back to Stamps. This was a really hard time for Bailey because he loved his mother and never wanted to leave her. -
Bailey's sarcasm
Bailey, in stamps, shows off "sarcasm" which he has learned in Californina from listening toconversations. -
Bailey Comes home Late
Bailey comes back home very late at night to the point that momma and maya go out searching for him. He came home late because he was desired to watch a move he has already watched a second time. His punichment afterwards was a whipping. The reason he came home late was because he fell in love with a white woman who looked like his mom in the theater. "If he couldn't talk to me it must have been serious. But there was no air of spent revelry about him. He just seemed sad" (17.34). -
Bailey becomes interested in sex
Bailey starts playing sexual games with girls. He makes a tent from a blanket and has Maya stand outside to stand guard of any adualts. -
Bailey meets Joyce
Bailey has been having sexaul games for a while and now finally finds a girl that he's crushed on. They both stick around eachother and also play sexual games.
-To show how close Bailey felt towards Joyce, Maya said this: "For him, she was the mother who let him get as close as he dreamed, the sister who wasn't moody and withdrawing, and teary and tender-hearted." (21.24) -
Joyce leaves
Joyce brakes up with Bailey and runs away with another man to Dallas. Bailey eventually gets over it, but learns the feeling of a broken heart. -
Bailey gives Maya a graduation present
-Bailey (now 14 years old) gives Maya a very expensive leather bound book of Edger Allen Poe poems.
-Only a brother that Truley loves their sister would buy a present this expensive with his own money. -
Bailey sees a dead Negro
This was the first day that Bailey has seen a dead person in front of hime. He also witnesses how the whites mistreat black people and is confused why. -
Bailey travels to California perminately
After Bailey's incident with the dead body, momma plans to send Bailey and Maya back to their parents to live with them.
