Malcolm X

  • Birth

    Malcolm was born on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was born named Malcolm Little, but then in the future would change his name.
  • Father's Death

    Malcolm's father died on September 28, 1931. He was hit by a streetcar. The authorities said his death was an accident but it is thought otherwise. It is believed that he was killed by KKK members. Malcolm was just six years of age when this tragedy took place.
  • Drop Out of School

    Macolm dropped out of school in 8th grade. He was a good student but he was told that his goal to become a lawyer wasn't realistic. It made him feel that what ever he did he would be good enough for this world.
  • U.S Army Enlistment

    The U.S Army ordered Malcolm to enlist for the US Military. To get out of having to register he acted mentaly ill saying he coudn't wait to "steal us some guns, and kill some crackers." They then said he couldn't enlist because he had mental problems.
  • Busted

    Malcolm and a group of men when on a robbing spree. They targeted rich white families. At the age of twenty, on January 12, 1946, Malcolm was arrested for burglary while trying to pick up a stolen watch he had left for repairs at a jewlery shop. The shop owner had called the police because it seemed to expensive of a watch for him. On January 16, he was charged with larceny and breaking and entering, and was then sentenced to eight to ten years in Massachusetts State Prison.
  • Released

    On August 7, 1952, Malcolm was paroled and released after 6 years in prison. Malcolm then converted to Islam religion.
  • Malcolm X is Born

    He then would meet with Elijah Muhammad in Chicago, Illinois. Then, like many members of the Nation of Islam, he changed his surname to X.
  • Malcolm Marries Betty Sanders

    Malcolm was and Betty had been friends for about a year. Betty suspected Malcolm wanted to get married, and she was right. Malcom called one day and asked her if she wanted to marry him. She said yes and the two got married in Lansing, Michigan. In the future they would have six daughters together.
  • Leaves the NOI

    On March 8, 1964, Malcolm announced he would be leaving the Nation of Islam. He decided this after he learned that Elijah Muhammad had broken many of his own rules. He also said he wanted to work with other civil rights leaders but Elijah prevented him from doing so.
  • Malcolm's House is Firebombed

    In June 1964, the NOI sued Malcolm to reclaim his house that they claimed to own. The lawsuit worked and Malcolm was ordered to move out. On February 14, 1965, the night before hearing to hold up the moving date, the house was burned down. No one was charged with a crime.
  • Assassination

    On Febuary 21, 1965, Malcolm X was assassinated while giving a speech to 400 in the Audobon Ballroom. One man ran onto the stage and shot him in the chest. Then two other men came and shot him 16 times combined. All there were three people involved in his assassination. All three were part of the NOI. Their names were Talmadge Hayer, Norman 3X Butler, and Thomas 15X Johnson.
  • Malcolm's Funeral

    On Febuary 23, 1965, Malcolm X's funeral took place. The amount of people that came is around 14,000 and 30,000. Malcolm was only at the age of 39 when he died.
