    The Second Sudanese Civil War was a conflict from 1983 to 2005 between the central Sudanese government and the Sudan People's Liberation Army. It was mainly a continuation of the First Sudanese Civil War of 1955 to 1972.

    Majak Daw was born on March 11 1991. He was the third child of six.
  • Leaving Sudan

    In 2000, when Daw is only 9 years old, his family fled South Sudan for a better life. His family left to Egypt while waiting for a visa to Australia.

    After a long journey, Daw and his family arrived in Egypt. Daw and his family stayed in Egypt for 3 years. Daw struggled to fit in as a new arrival but then his family moved to Australia.

  • Getting Drafted to the AFL

    Getting Drafted to the AFL
    On the 2010 Nab AFL draft night, Majak got invited to the first nighof the draft. Fortunately he was the 9th pick chosen by North Melbourne. Three years later he played his first AFL game.
  • Racistly abused

    Daw was racistly harassed by a Port Melbourne supporter whilst playing VFL for the Werribee tigers in 2011.
  • 2013 AFL debut

    In 2013, only 10 years after he arrived Majak became the first Sudanese born AFL/VFL player when he made his debut with the Kangaroos in 2013.
  • First professional game

    On Sunday, 21 April 2013 Daw played his first professional AFL game. In the first minute of the game Daw brought the expectations up drastically by scoring his first goal in his AFL career from beyond fifty meters out.
  • Melbourne Bolte Bridge

    Melbourne Bolte Bridge
    On the 18 of December 2018, Majak Daw attempted suicide by jumping of the Melbourne Bolte Bridge. It was a 25 meter drop into the Yarra River. Minuets later he was found floating down the river and was helped by paramedics and police.

    He's still recovering from the Melbourne bridge, and now playing VFL for the Warribee Tigers.
