Alda, who was the champion of Equal Rights in 1976, set off the factoid heavy rundown of feminist history, from how the suffrages were stigmatized from the unattractive underwear that they allegedly wore to the women who stormed the Roman Senate for the right to wear the color purple. He fought this idea at the time because he believes that men and women should be equal and not separated. He tried to show this in his movies, by providing female actors with the same pay, and acting roles.
