    I chose the Black codes because it stuck out when I was researching what laws to do, it's an exciting law and very interesting. After the civil war ended the Southern states enacted the codes. These codes allowed allowed African Americans certain rights. Some of these rights included legalized marriage, ownership to property and limited access to the courts.
  • Compromise of 1877

    Compromise of 1877
    • It was one of a series of political compromises, this took place after the civil war.
    • It was an effort to hold the peace in the United States.
    • It was worked out behind the scenes with no written record.
    • It was intended to provide financial subsidies to the South, although it didn't come to pass.
  • Civil nights act of 1866

    Civil nights act of 1866
    • Granted citizenship and the same rights enjoyed by white citizens to all male persons in the United States " without distinction of race or color, or previous condition of slavery or involuntary servitude.
    • An act to protect all persons in the United States in their civil rights and furnish the means of their vindication.
    • This happened April 9th 1866
  • Confederate law of March 13, 1865

    Confederate law of March 13, 1865
    • Authorizing the enlistment of black soldiers as promulgated in military order.
    • An act to increase the military force of the confederate states.
    • Maintain the rightful possession of the confederate states, the president is authorized to ask for and except from the answers of slaves.
    • The service of slaves negro men may perform military service.
    • They would all receive the same treatment as all men.
  • Reconstruction Acts

    Reconstruction Acts
    • 2 years after the civil war ended congress forged a complete plan for reconstruction.
    • there were several measures passed in 1867.
    • one of them stated that there would be creation of five military districts in the seceded states.
    • also that voters were to be registered and all freedom was included.
    • for a final example was that states were required to ratify the 14th amendment prior to re admission.

  • Jane Addams

    Jane Addams
    She won worldwide recognition in the first third of the twentieth century as a pioneer social worker in America, as a feminist and as an internationalist. Addams co-founded one of the first settlements in the United States. She also complied her talks on ending war in the world in 'Never Ideals of Peace ' published in. In she became the first female president of the national conference of charities and connections.
  • Henry Ford

    Henry Ford
    Ford created the ford model T car in 1908 and went on to develop the assembly line made of production which revolutionized the industry. Sold millions of cars and became the world famous company head. Having a lasting effect. In 1914 he sponsored the development of the many assembly line technique of mass production, at the same time he introduced the US-per-day wages.

    Pablo Picasso
    Pablo Picasso was a very skillful writer who did a lot of work in the progressive era. All though he suffered from severe depression which he incorporated into many of his works during "They Blue Period" he overcame it and carried on his artwork. During this era, he also entered into his Rose period which lasted from 1904-1906. He Created many works and developed himself to out production.

    Son of a Jewish rabbi. He launched his career in 1894 as a professional magician and renamed himself Harry Houdini. Continued his act in the US in the early 1900's, constantly upping his acts from anywhere to getting out of handcuffs,straight jacket, water-filled tanks and nailed packing crates.In 1912 his act was reached its pinnacle- the Chinese water Torture cell,which was the hallmark of his carren, he was tied upside down by his feet.     Mark Twain
    Mark Twain was born on November 30, 1835. He received an honorary doctorate degree from Yale university in 1901. He was the first political humorist. He was considered to be a progressivist. He was a member of the Anti-Imperialist League. Many of his writings expressed the ideas and problems of America. He often wrote about politics, religion, and race. He wrote more than than ten books in this time period.
