Nagel defended a naturalistic interpretation of logic, arguing they they must be understood according to their function in specific inquires. -

From 1934-1935 and 1950-1951 he was a Guggenheim fellow
He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1954
in 1962 he was also elected to the American Philosophical Society.
Finally, in 1977 he was elected to the National Academy of Sciences. -

In 1958, Ernest Nagel and James Newman published a readable and accessible explanation to scholars and non-specialists of the main ideas and implications of Gödel's discovery. In 1931, Kurt Gödel published his paper of which challenged certain basic assumptions underlying much research in mathematics and logic. -
Contribution to Philosophy of Science: Structure of Science
Many of Nagel's writings deal with social and political questions as well as questions of religion. His major contribution to Philosophy of Science is to be found in a book that Nagel wrote called The Structure of Science. Published in 1961, this book Ernest Nagel discussed the nature of scientific inquiry with reference to both natural science and social science. He explores roles of reduction in scientific theories and the relationship of their parts and evaluates views of philosophers. -
