Kurt's mom comitts suicide
Kurt's mother comitts suicide with sleeping pills. This would effect him later in life because he would struggle with depression and also attempt to kill himsle as well. Along with the passing of his dad and his sons mental issues. -
Kurt Vonnegut joins the army
Kurt joins the army and is sent to the European Theater to fight in the Battle of the bulge. He gets captured by German forces and taken to a POW camp. The experiences in which he encountered would later influence him and guide him in the writting of "Slaughterhouse 5". This novel is considered to be his best of them all. This relates to the AP theme of conflict, obviously WW2 was known as a major conflict in the history of the world and still is today known for its significance. -
Kurt survives the Fire Bombing of Dredsden
Kurt survived the firebombing of Dredsden by hiding in a meatlocker at thebottom of a slaughterhouse. Again the accounts here would be implemented into his book "Slaughterhouse 5". This related to the AP theme of technology, during this time the making of explosions was in high gear and every country wanted to get their hands on explosives. -

All Soldiers from both theaters were returning home including Vonnegut who was freed from his captors by Russian Soldiers. This is related to the AP theme of migration. this was esentially a mass migration of many peoples, not just consisting of Americans but all races who were involved in the war. -

Kurt Vonnegut gets married to Marie Jane Cox. In which they would have three kids together. This would effect him and his writting because he would have to create novels to support his newly grown family. This is related to the AP theme of family becuase he would have to support his new family with his novels sales. -

Kurt becomes a publisist at GE. This relates to the AP theme of science and technology because not only was Vonnegut helping to GE develope new products at technology, he would also implement some of his knowledge on science later into some of his books. One book being "Cats Cradle" were a scientist comes up with a potion to turn all water in the world into ice. -
Vonnegut writes "The barnhouse effect"
Vonnegut writes a short story on a boy who misinforms the U.S Government about new found abilities. This can relate to AP themes the development of Technology, new technology was greatly wanted during the Cold War era because you always had to gain a advantage over your opponent. Since Vonnegut lived throught the whole Cold War era he knew of new technologies and the propoaganda that was the Cold War in which he also implemented into his novels and plays. -

He moves to Cape Cod to begin writting full time. This is related to the AP theme of migration because he needed a new place to begin working on his new full time career. -
Vonnegut's father dies
Kurt had to experience the death of his father and his sister all around the same time. This was a difficult thing for him to cope with and it lead to him being mentally unstable. In some of his short stories and novels he would reference death in simple words that held alot of meaning. -

Kurt;s son experiences a schizophrenic meltdown. This would effect Vonnegut effect him in his struggles whith depression. However this gave his son a inspiration to write a novel of his own called "The Eden Express". -

The movie is a huge sucess for Vonnegut, his family and his reputation as a writter. It made his novels grow and become more popular. This is related to the AP theme of the arts as well, because the movie reached out to alot of people becase it was so famous for its time. This showed the world that Vonnegut could be succesful on a variety of creative levels. -
Vonnegut get remarried
Vonnegut divorces his first wife and gets remarried to Jill Krementz. It was another rough patch in his life becuase the couple had three children together. However, everything came together for him with her and they shared each others sucess. They spent the rest of their lives together until Kurt died in 2007. -
Vonnegut's attempted suicide
Kurt attempted to take his own life with sleeping pills and alchohol. His struggles with depression pushed him over the egde but luckily he survived the experience. -

He writes these collection of essay after 9/11 and talks about American society as a whole. American Nationalism is a big reocurring theme throughout all of his novels. This relates to the AP theme of nations and nationalism becuase his writtings were entirely about his opinions on America. -

After suffering head trauma from falling down the stairs in his house, he died leaving behind a memorable career.
