As a result his mother was very protective and worried about him because of the death of her other three sons.     First gasoline driven car is invented on September 20, 1883. This improved how everyone got around and took less time to get to a destination. This was the beginning of cars, that are so high tech now.

    In 1904 Joseph got married for the first time to Ekaterina Svanidze. She was very special to him and he loved her very much. When she died he was very heartbroken. She meant a lot to him and he didn't take her death very well. He did however marry after this but none of his other wifes meant as much as Ekaterina.

    On March 18, 1907 his only true son, Yakov Dzhugashvili, was born. Him and his dad Joseph didnt get along. His dad was often mean to his son and was disappointed in him for many reason. His son hated him so much he tried to shoot himself but missed and all his dad said was he can't even shoot himself right.

    In April 1922,Joseph was named general secretary. Lenin promoted him to this position. Lenin trusted him but was always worried about him becoming ruler of Russia. Obviously Joseph would become the ruler even though Lenin didn't want him to.

    Lenin had a stroke but came back to politics, he had a second stroke and lost movement in half of his body. He was technically no longer apart of politics but he was still consulted on political matters. Lenin later had a third stroke and died. This however, created a power struggle. Although Lenin didn't want Stalin to be the dictator he still eventually was. Stalin formed an alliance with people in politics to better his chance of being ruler.

    On February 28, 1926 his first daughter, Svetlana Alliluyeva, was born. He had his daughter with one of his other wifes, as his first wife was dead. This was his first and last child he had.

    On October 29, 1929 the great depression started. Many people lost jobs, homes, and even lives. This was a very bad time for the economy. It took quite some time to rebound from this horrible time. It did get better though.

    In 1936 to 1938 the great purge took place. Millions were killed or sent to camps in Siberia. He was paranoid of people trying to kill him or get him out of being the dictator. This is part of the reason why people say he wasn't a good dictator, which he wasn't.

    Joseph was the dictator of Russia during world war 2. The united states didn't want to be an allie's with Stalin and Russia but it was best to help defeat Germany. In return Russia helped the U.S. defeat japan.
