His life
He was a Spanish fascist politician, and the founder of the Falange (Spanish Fascist Party). He was the eldest son of Miguel Primo de Rivera, a Spanish dictator. -

Studied law at the University of Madrid
While he was studying law at the University, he met Ramón Serrano Súñer, and they both ruled the Asociación Oficial de Estudiantes de Derecho (he was general secretary, and Ramón was president) in 1920. -
Began his career as a lawyer
He became a registered lawyer while his father was still a dictator, ad opened an office in Madrid. -
Became part of the Orden de Santiago
He joined the Orden de Santiago, a religious and political order which main aims were to protect the pilgrims of the Camino de Santiago and expel all the muslims in the Iberian Peninsula. -
Got involved in politics
He didn't want to get involved in the political system until his father's death. When he died in 1930, he left his work as a lawyer to defend his father's memory. -
General Vice Secretary of the National Monarchic Union
This party was the successor of the one Primo de Rivera's father ruled in, so he participated to honour his father's memory. Meanwhile, he also collaborated with the La Nación newspaper, which he was the co-owner of. -
Creation of the Falange Española
Primo de Rivera launched his nationalist party, the Spanish Phalanx, inspired by the Fascist movement in Italy. He aimed for a hierarchical order of society, along with many other ideas. He also noted that they may use violence if needed. -
Fusion of the Falange with the JONS
He fused the Falange with the Juntas de Ofensiva Nacional-Sindicalista (JONS), adding their national-syndicalism to the party. -
Primo de Rivera became the leader of the party
When the FE joined the JONS, the power was divided between José Antonio Primo de Rivera and Onésimo Redondo and Ramiro Ledesma Ramos. The other two were the leaders of the JONS. A year after the union of the parties, a votation was made and it was decided that Primo de Rivera would be the only leader. -
Arrested
He was arrested in Madrid due to illegal possession of firearms. Nine weeks after, he was moved to the prison in Alicante. While he was in prison, he still communicated with the Falange secretly. -
Sentenced to death
Primo de Rivera was accused of conspiring against the Republic and of military insurrection. On 18th November he was found guilty, and two days later he was executed by local authorities.
