    John was 5′ 7″ and very athletic. He was good swimmer, John watched the Battle of Bunker Hill from a hill near his house in Quincy when he was 8. His wife was Louisa Catherine Johnson, the only foreign born first lady. He was fluent in French, Dutch and German. He was proficient in Italian, Latin and classical Greek.

    None of the 3 candidates had enough electoral votes to become President so it went to the House of Representatives. The speakear of the house (Clay) chose Adam because he knew Adams would appoint him to secretary of state.
