John was 5′ 7″ and very athletic. He was good swimmer, John watched the Battle of Bunker Hill from a hill near his house in Quincy when he was 8. His wife was Louisa Catherine Johnson, the only foreign born first lady. He was fluent in French, Dutch and German. He was proficient in Italian, Latin and classical Greek. -
Elected as President
John Quincy Adams became the 6th president of the United States on this day. He represented the republican party. -
Jackson claimed he won because of a corrupt bargain
None of the 3 candidates had enough electoral votes to become President so it went to the House of Representatives. The speakear of the house (Clay) chose Adam because he knew Adams would appoint him to secretary of state. -

Did not have a good relationship with congress and he didn't develop a realtionship with his political party. -

He demanded to be treated like royalty and this annoyed people around him. He was also a stubborn man and obsessive about things. -
Adams proposed different programs
He wanted to promote science and new inventions. He said he would do this by building highways and canals so they could connect to different parts of the country. He also wanted to set aside public land to later use as conservation. -
Strength
He was determined with keeping the peace between America and France. -
Positve
He created an interstate system of roads and canals and a national university. -
Failure
Tried to provide Native Americans with territory in the West, but like many of his initiatives he failed to find support in Congress.
