Early Life
Growing up in a small English family, Polkinghorne took to education, more specifically, mathematics at an early age. His schooling however wasn't very formal until his father was promoted to head postmaster, at which point he attended Perse school in Cambridge. -
John Polkinghorne, Ph.D
By the time he was 26, Polkinghorne had just finished his doctoral program and earned his Ph.D in the quantum field theory at Trinity College, Cambridge. In the same year, he took a job as a lecturer in mathematical physics at the University of Edinburph. -
Scientist turned Priest
After a very successful life of education, earning a doctoral degree by the age of 26, and lecturing mathematical physics for Trinity College, John polkinghorne decided he was ready to turn it in for a journey of the faith. He was ordained in 1982 and devoted the rest of his career to his new work. -
Sir John Polkinghorne
As a testament to his hard work and dedication, Polkinghorne was officially knighted by Queen Elizabeth the II, although he did not retain the title of "Sir" due to his priesthood. His work in science, religion, and philosophy paved the way for future Christian scientists to join the work. -
Uncharted Waters
One of Polkinghorne's more provocative books was,
"Quantum Physics and Theology: An Unexpected Kinship". Through this book, he was able to link Physics and God together, and showing us (through his beliefs), that there are many similarities between the two. https://youtu.be/C-RBaGLtjEc Click the link for a look at how Rev. Dr. Polkinghorne looks at the relationship between Physics and God!
