Senior Wrangler
John Polkinghorne graduated from the Trinity college, Cambridge, with his bachelors degree in mathematics in 1952, at the same time he was honored with the most prestigious academic award and title, Senior Wrangler. He continued on his pursuit of higher education, earning his master’s 3 years later and then his doctorate in quantum field theory in 1956. -

Renowned Papers
Through out his college and professorship days, John Polkinghorne released 7 major works within this time span. These works expanded on his own quantum field theory. More specifically his works like ‘Temporally ordered graphs in quantum field theory’ 1955 were reviewed by Freeman Dyson and even had some of his works posted in the Proceedings by the Royal society. -
Teaching at Cambridge
The following year, Polkinghorne having traveled to different countries, began lecturing at the University of Edinburgh, but eventually found his way back to teaching at Cambridge in 1958. This is where he would cultivate new theories and discoveries that would impact the science community forever. -
Royal Society Invite
In 1968, one of the most pivotal times for Polkinghorne’s, was when he received the new professorship in mathematical physics. He taught at prestigious schools across the United States and Europe, such as, Berkeley, Stanford, Princeton, and CERN. This all culminated in 1974, John was invited to join the Royal Society for his contributions to the community of mathematical physics. -
Career Path Change
John Polkinghorne decided at this point in his life that he would return to his faithful roots and become a minister, however, he did not abandon his knowledge of physics. He went on to write many books and papers tying God and Science together, creating a positive parallel in a consistently debated dispute. Eventually being knighted and receiving the Templeton award 2002For his service to religion and science.
