Birthday
John Dyer was a painter and a Welsh poet who was born in 1699. According to Welsh tradition, he was baptized on August 13th, 1699, about two weeks after his birth. No other records were found to give an exact birthdate. -
school years
Dyer attended and elementary school in the countryside of Llanfynndd, about five miles from Grongar Hill. He then attended Westminster School, under the headmaster, Dr. Friend, from 1711 to 1733. Later we learn that Dyer disliked this school, and retained little of what he learned in Latin. He wrote a book called "Journal of Escapes", where he wrote about his dislike of Westminster. -
eairly career
After Westminster, John Dyer worked with his dad named Robert in his law office. Here he learned the field of law and property of management. However, he longed to paint and write. After his dad died in 1720, John left for Londan to pursue painting and poetry. -

John Dyer painted under the supervision of Jonathan Richardson. Here he learned that to draw and paint, you need to observe nature, read, and study works by master painters to truly be able to paint. In 1724,Dyer sailed to Italy to study more. It was here in Italy that he wrote the 3rd edition of Grongar Hill. He also wrote the poem the Ruins of Rome, in 1740. -
Death
Dyer contacted Malaria in Campagna, and his pursuits of painting were unsuccessful. He went back to Aberglasney in 1727, and lived off his mom's inheritance after she died. He ran a farm and learned about wool making. He wrote a poem called The Fleece. He met his wife Sarah Hawkins, who was a decendent of Shakespeare. They had several kids together. He dies in 1757 of a consumptive disoreder, probably TB.
