    Ernest Nagel

    Ernest Nagel was an American philosopher of science born November 16, 1901 and died September 20, 1985. Ernest was originally born in Nove Mesto, Bohemia and didn't move to the United States until he was ten years old. He accomplished all of his higher education in the United States. Throughout Ernest Nagel's lifetime he managed to obtain a bachelors, masters, and a Ph.D. as well as write multiple books. Ernest has left his mark on the philosophy of science for sure!

    A Prominent Philosopher

    From the 1930's to the 1960's Ernest Nagel remained one of the most prominent philosophers of science. He joined Columbia University in 1931 and in 1934 he collaborated with his teacher Morris Cohen at City College of New York to publish An introduction to Logic and the Scientific Method which goes on to become one of and most successful textbooks on the scientific method.     The Journal of Philosophy

    In 1919 Ernest Nahel got his United States citizenship. In the next four years he got a Bachelor of Science degree from the city college of New York in 1923. After Ernest got his bachelors degree he kept moving forward with his degree and got a doctorate from Columbia University in 1930. In 1931 he joined the faculty of philosophy where he served as an editor for the Journal of Philosophy from 1939 to 1956. He also worked on the Journal of Symbolic Logic from 1940 1946.

    Nagel's Published

    Shortly after Nagels time as an editor for Columbia he published a couple books. In 1954 Nagel published Sovereign Reason and he published Logic without Metaphysics in 1957. Nagel published The Structure of Science in 1961 which is still considered to be one of the best works on the philosophy of science.

    Legacy of Ernest Nagel

    Ernest Nagel had a very strong presence in the Philosophy of Science realm. He produced much work through his career from publishing his own work as well helping on others and collaborating with different philosophers. September 22 1985 Ernest Nagel passed away from pneumonia at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. Even after his passing his legacy and what he has done for the science community especially the philosophy of science will continue on.
