Muhammad's Journey
Muhammad has his vision in the cave near mecca and begins to teach the word of god as the last prophet over time he gains followers and takes citties converting the people into the islam faith. After his death the Muslim world was weakened but the spread contiunes on in his successors. -

Abu Bakr becomes Caliph

Claiming Land
Under Muhammad's successor, the muslims were able to defeat the Byzantine army at the Yarmuk River. Years later they took control of the Byzantine province of syria and by 650 they were able to conquer the entire empire of the Sassanids after all these battles the Arab Empire even after the death of Muhammad vastly expanded their culture -

Umayyad Dynasty
During the umayyad dynasty there were factional struggles but that did not stop the expansion of Islam new attacks were lanched at both eastern and western Mediterranean world. Arab armies advanced across North Africa and conquered the Berbers, all of these wars greatly spreading Islam -

Arab Forces Take the Iberian Peninsula
In 710 Arab forces cross the Strait of Gibraltar and take control of southern spain.
Years later they destroy the Visigothic kingdom and by 725 most of Iberian Peninsula become a muslim state with the center in Andalusia. -

Abbasid Dynasty
The Abbasids take over rule from the Umayyads under the Abbasids judges, merchants and goverment officials rather than warriors became ideal citizens. -

The Abbasids Move the Capital
The Abbasid's build a new capital city in Baghdad on the tigris river far from the umayyad capital at Damascus. The new capital was built to take advantage of the river traffic to the persian gulf and to spread Islam farther out. Golden Age
The Arabs had a period of economic prosperity and cultural spread. (786-809) Harun al-Rashid's reign is often described as the golden age of the Abbasid caliphate. His son al-Ma'mun (813-833) founded an astronomical observatory and established foundation for undertaking translations of Classical Greek works. During this time the Arabs had conquered many of the Roman Empire and now controled the eastern routes.
