October 2nd at the age of 25 he found the cause, he had stage 3 cancer, it spread to his lungs abdomen and brain, he required chemo and surgery and he was faced with a 40% chance of survival. -

His cancer was in remission by early 1997
He wanted to inspired others by forming his own charity organization the Lance Amstrong Foundation.

Retirement and controversy
