Imre Lakatos first major publishing "Proofs and Refutations" is four articles long over the span of 1963-1964. In which one of his big arguments was against Formalism. Formalism according to Lakatos includes logicism and intuitionism. -
Proofs and refutations continued
Lakatos was interested in the growth of mathematical knowledge. He wanted to know the how and why as opposed to the axioms and proofs laid down by Hilberts programme. "How does mathematics grow from informal conjectures and proofs into more formal proofs from axioms?"
