    Ian Hacking was born in Vancouver, Canada in 1936.
  • Early Life

    Ian Hacking was born and raised in Vancouver, Wa. Not much is said about his early life. He graduated from the University of British Columbia, and the University of Cambridge with his undergrad. He would go on to earn his PhD at Cambrigde in 1962.
  • Teaching Career

    Ian Hasking would start his teaching career at Princeton around 1960. He would only last about a year, before he would move to University of Virginia as an assistant professor. After being a research fellow, Hasking would go on to become a lecturer at Cambrigde.

  • People of influence

    Hasking is know to have been influenced by people like Thomas Kuhn, Imre Lakatos, and Paul Feyerabend, among others. He was so much influenced, that in the 50th anniversary edition of Kuhns "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions", Hasking wrote the introduction. He also wrote the introduction in Feyerbrands book "Against Method".
  • Contributions

    Due to his contributions to the field of philosophy of science, and philosophy of analytics, Hacking is still considered a member of "Stanford School". He helped pioneer and lead "entity realism". This is realism encouraging a realistic stance towards answers to the scientific unknowns hypothesized by mature sciences, but skepticism towards current scientific theories" (Miller, 1970).
