  • World War 2 Begins

  • Hiroo Onoda Joins Imperial Japanese Army

    When Hiroo was 20 years old he joined the Japanese Imperial Army.
  • Onoda is sent to Lubang

    Hiroo Onoda was sent to Lubang, Phillipines on a mission. His mission was to join a group of people already in Lubang and to hamper any enemy attacks on the island. Lastly, he was ordered to not surrender, or to take his own life.
  • US and Phillipine Forces Attack and Capture Lubang

    Onoda was outranked by people in the group he joined in Lubang. Therefore, he could not order them to do what he was told to do giving the US and Phillipine armies an easy capturing of Lubang.
  • Onoda is Promoted to Lieutenant and Orders His Men to Run for the Mountains

    Onoda was promoted to Lieutenant soon after the landing in Lubang and ordered the 3 men he had that were still alive to run for the mountains.
  • End of WW2

    The Japanese Emperor surrenders.
  • Onoda Surrenders

    Hiroo Onoda is found by his Major, who made him a promise, the promise was: "No matter what, we will come back for you.". Therefore, upon relieving Onoda of his duty, Major Yoshimi Taniguchi fulfilled the promise he made to Onoda 30 years before.
