In 1981, Putnam proposed an attempt to refute an argument based on a form of the brain-in-a-vat scenario. Brain-in-a-vat supposes that a scientist has removed your brain and put it in a vat of liquid to keep it alive. It uses a computer to send it signals like your body would so that your brain still thinks you are up and walking around. Putnam gave his theory to support this idea that the brain-in-a-vat is real and not just skepticism.
