    Hilary Putman was born in Chicago and was the only child of both of his parents Samuel and Riva Putman. He studied mathematics and philosophy but focused more on philosophy. He got his Ph.D. in 1951 and then he taught philosophy until he retired in 2000. He was also had an interest in his Jewish heritage personally and heritage.

    Putman took more of a realism approach to philosophy. He was considered a realist and thought of things as theories and beliefs being either true or false. Over time he came up with the idea of "internal realism". His theory was centralized of meaning to all ideas of realism.

He used how a person can use other ways to get a blind person to understand something they can not see and a deaf person to hear something they can not hear. He also published a book in 1983 called "Why There Isn't a Ready-Made World".

    Hilary Putman started to distance himself from the idea of materialism. He also believed in the difference between what is factual and what is thought to be norms and values. Putman also put out a lot of his later work. His latest work was "Philosophy in the Age of Science: Physics, Mathematics, and Skepticism" published in 2012.

    Hilary Putman died at the age of 89 right before his 90th birthday. He was a very influential philosopher and gave a great outlook of realism from a philosopher's point of view. He incorporated a lot to understand the meaning of meaning.
