To Dresden We Go
Billy, Derby, Lazzaro and the other american pows are taken to Dresden about a month before it is bombed. This is when they are introduced to their new home, Slaughter House 5. This is important because this is the event that has killed thousands of people and has affected billy many years after the bombing had happen. -
The After Math Of The Bombing Of Dresden
WW2 ended a couple days ago and they are looting empty buildings and ruins. They see the after math and destruction of Dresden as they go. Though when some locals yelled at him about the bad condition of there horses were in billy cried because he felt bad and didn't even notice. This goes to show how he was so drifted away in his mind. He states this is the only thing he cried about in the war which shows how the bombing of Dresden has affected him. -
The Cleaning Up Of Dresden
Billy and the rest of the prisoners are lead by guards to the ruins to clean up the area of the rubble and bodies. The stench of the bodies got so bad that German soldiers with flamethrowers would burn them up on the spot. Derby got shot for stealing a teapot. This is the event that stuck with Billy many years after and still affected him to his present day and many others. This is what gave him ptsd. This also shows how the after math is worse than the actual event taking place. -
Mentally Ill
He time travels to when he was at the ward for nonviolent mental which he would voluntarily go to. He and the doctors approved on the fact that he was going crazy. He also meets eliot rosewater who introduces him to science fiction books. This is important because this shows that billy is crazy and the time travel and aliens aren't actually real and could actually be from the science fiction books. -
Kilgore Trout
This is when Billy meets Kilgore Trout (the science fiction writer of the books billy likes to read) and befriends him. He even invited him to his 18th wedding anniversary. This is significant in the fact that some of kilgores books are what Billy thinks he has actually truly experience in life because of his craziness like the time travel and aliens. -
Going Back To Dresden
KV and his friend Bernard travel back to Dresden to visit. KV describes it as looking like Dayton, Ohio. They visited slaughter house 5 which is the place they were kept as prisoners of war in WW2 and made friends with there cab driver that drove them around dresden. -
War Is Still There In Memory.
Wen Billy "time travels" to 1967 He is driving to a lions club luncheon meeting in a nice cadillac. As he was passing a ghetto town It reminded him of soem of the ares and places has seen in the war because of the cracked sidewalks and crushed curbes. As he drove further the ghetto got worse and it even reminded him of dresden after the the bombings. This shows how dresden is still stuck with billy and it will always be there. That there will also be things that will remind him of the war. -
Aliens!!!
He time travels to a night in 1967 when he is abducted by the Tralfamadores. Though right before he is watching war documentary forwards and backward before they arrive to take him. He knows this since he claims to have already seen it in the future. The abduction is important because this is the beginning of Billy's interaction with the aliens and when he starts his learning what there believes are, especially on free will. -
Billy's Plane Crash
When Billy was on a plane full of other optometrists heading to a convention it crashed into a mountain in Vermont. Billy was the only survivor. His wife also died from carbon monoxide too from a car accident trying to go see him at the hospital. This is to show that death doesn't discriminate and that it can happen to anyone whenever. -
After Billy's Plane Crash
He is ironically set up next to a veteran who is into military history and knows about the bombings of Dresden and says something about it. The next day billy and him talk about it and gets the other guys perspective on it which was that it was necessary. Hearing this and talking about it could potentially help him and his ptsd.
