Roald Dahl was born in 1916. His father was a businessman and his mther a very sweet person. -
New home
When he was two years old, his father was a very succesfull man. So they moved to a big and beautiful house in Radyr, Cardiff (Wales). -
Sad news
In 1920, his sister Astri died from appendicitis. In the same year his father died from pneumonia, because he refused to fight to survive... -
Kindergarten
After his father died, his mother decided to move to a smaller house, so they moved to Llandaff. It was there that he went to his first school, the kindergarten. -
Llandaff Cathedral School
He began to attend this Preparatory School for boys when he was seven years old.
The school was near the Llandaff Cathedral, that's the reason of this name. -
The bycicle
When Roald was walking home, a boy came riding full speed down the road on a bycicle. He was going down a slope and was backpedaling. He had his hands off the handlebars.
Roald saw him and decided his hope was to have a bike like that and to do the same. -
The Sweet Shop
With some friends he had made, he always went to the sweet-shop. It was their hobby.
The only bad thing about it was the owner, a disgusting old woman called Mrs Pratchett, who never smiled and was always mean with them. -
The Great Mouse Plot
He and his friends had found a hidden hollow space in their classroom, which they used to hide sweets and other treasures.
One day, they discovered a dead mouse in there, and Roald came out with the idea of putting the mouse in one of the Mrs Pratchett's jars of sweeets. So they went to the shop and distracted her for a while to put the mouse in a jar. -
Mrs Pratchett's Revenge
Mr Coombes grabbed a cane and started to hit the boys in the bottom. Mrs. Pratchett was right there staring at them. When Dahl's turn came, Mr Coombes made him suffer even worse.
Roald's mother discovered the scars and decided he was going to attend an English boarding school once he had finish the year -
Going to Norway
The hole family travelled to Norway, that was like going home.
Once they arrived to Oslo, they were received by Roald's grandparents in their home. They had always the same routine. They ate fish and icecream, and the older ones drank liquor after his grandfather's small speech. -
Boarding School
Roald started St Peter´s School, Weston-super- Mare, Somerset.
There he got the habit of letter writing at least once a week . -
Homesickness
During the first term, he felt homesickness so he faked having appendicitis , the doctor discovered the lie and made him promise not to do that again ,then gave him three days of resting. -
The nose cut
The family went out for a drive when they crashed into the hedge. Nobody was hurt except Roald , his nose had been cut off. His family took him to the doctor and he sew the nose again. -
Captain Hardcastle
While he was making Prep his nib broke. He tried to ask for a nib borrowed.
Captain Hardcastle acused him of cheating and gave him a stripe, then the Headmaster gave him six strokes with a cane. -
Goat´s tobacco
The family went to Norway to an island that had goats.
Roald made a joke filling the sisters lover ´s pipe with goat´s droppings and placed a thin layer of tobacco over the top so he could smoke it. -

Games and photography
Dahl won both the junior and the senior school fives and got the title "Captain of fives".
He never became a Boazer at Reptons.
Also he started practicing photography -
Finishing School
Won prizes and medals from the Royal Photographic Society in London.
Applied for a job a on Shell and finished his last year at Repton.
