    Summary of his influence to Sociology

    Comte contributed the ideas of positivity to todays sociology. He was considered the father of sociology because he was the first to apply the scientific method to the study of sociology. He believed that society will always evolve to higher levels, and that societies that do not adapt quickly will crumple. He throughly believed that people and societies should be studied at great lengths.

  • Ecole Polytechnique

    Entered the École Polytechnique a school in Paris that trained military engineers.
  • Settled down in Paris

    As he settled down in Paris he taught mathematics. He also read and studied philosophy and history. Greatly interested in the history of human society.
  • Henri de Saint-Simon

    An important acquaintance of Comte. He was a social reformer and a founding father of socialism. They both shared some of the similar ideologies.

    Comte began a series of lectures to a private audience however, he suffered from nervous breakdowns. And had to take a year off to recover. He completed the initial series in 1829, then redelivered the lectures to the Royal Athenaeum

    System of Positive Polity With this, Comte completed his formulation of Sociology. In this work he depicts morality and moral of human knowledge. He covers polity and political organizations. His work was critiqued throughout Europe.

  • Comte’s death

    Comte devoted his life’s work to the welfare of humanity. Although many would accuse him of being self centered and egocentric he found compassion in his determination to promote his ideas. However in 1857 Comte died from cancer.
