Early life
Fredrich Engels was born to a prominent businessman for a father in Prussia. As is common among 19th century philosophers he did not have a good relationship with his father and was forced to live a double live as he privately pursued writing when he was not working on business endeavors for his father. This relationship also caused him to drop out of secondary school one year before graduation. -
Middle Years
Engels began to cultivate lots of knowledge to include learning several languages and pouring himself into philosophical works most notably those of G.W.F. Hegel. This turned him from relatively agnostic to staunchly atheist. These new found views contributed to his military service that only lasted one year to be less than remarkable. -
Conversion to Communism
Now living in England he met Moses Hess who would reveal and convert him to Communism. He continued to operate as a businessman during these times. As he put roots down in England by getting married and writing socialist articles. -
