Birth
Frederick Douglass an abolitionist was born a slave. His full name is Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey. He was born in Tuckahoe on Talbot County, Marland. He was either born in 1817 or 1818. Harriet Bailey was the mother of Mr.Douglass. -
Baltimore
At age 8 Frederick Douglass is moved to Baltimore. His new master would be Sophia Auld. Sophia has never owned a slave before. Suprisingly Sophia taught him the alpahabet. Mr.Auld told her to stop. The city of Baltimore or furthermore the city period is different from the country. Slaves are treated a lot bettter. They are treated better because if other people see how you treat your slave hen your reputation is saw differntly. -
Early Years
In early ages of his life he expierenced hard ships and things. He watched people and family get whipped. He almost never sees his mother. At 8 years old he recieved his first pair of trousers. He was a very outgoing young man. -
Thomas Auld`s Brother
After his time with Sophia Auld he became Thomas Auld`s slave. Thomas Auld was the ex-husband of Sophia Auld. Auld sends Douglass to his brother. He was sent from Baltimore to St.Micheals. In St.Micheals he worked in the kitchen. -
F.Y.I.
In this section of the book Douglass tells about stories of killed slaves. He is making examples of how much injustice there is. There were no laws against killing slaves back then. -
Covey He Goes
He was hired out by Edward Covey. Covey breaks slaves, in January of 1833 he went to live with Covey. At this time he was 16. He lived Covey for a year, his term ended in Christmas. In addition to Covey breaking people he also breeds them like animals. -
William Freeland
After Douglasses sentence with Edward Covey he is issued to William Freeland. While with Freeland he had a lot more freedom. He started a school to teach slaves to read on Sundays. He reasoning to do so was to better his race. He worked for Freeland for two years. -
Plans Gone Wrong
He plans to escape with four others. A Saturday night was the supposed night of their departure. During their departure they were caught and sent to jail. Douglass was hired out to William Gardener a shipbuilder. -
A Shipbuilder`s Apprentice
He is given a lot of power under William Gardener. He had the power to whip a slave. He escaped from Hugh Auld. He went to New York he was took in by a very polite family. The date of this was September 3, 1838. -
My Own Master
In Massachussets he found work. He described himself as his own master. His job was to load oil barrels onto a ship. He eventually went to Europe in August of 1845. -
The End of Time
After his time in Europe he came back to Rochester, New York. He died on Feburaury 20, 1895. Some of the dates are not necessarily accurate. They are not accurate because the book didnt not exactly say. -
New York to Massachusetts
In New York he was took in by David Ruggles. There he married Anna Murray. He wanted to find work he found work in New Bedford, Massachusetts. In Bedford a man named Nathan Johnson took him in. At that time he changed his name to Frederick Douglass.
