Peter Blow, Second Owner
Peter Blow was in Missouri the same time that John Emerson and his slave, Dred Scott, where. Peter was a U.S. Army Surgeon who was looking for a slave. He bought Dred and took him to Fort Armstrong, Illinois where he lived. -
Children
Ded and his wife had 4 children.They had two sons that died from infancy. Later on they had two daughters. The names of there daughters where Lizzie, and Eliza. -
Mrs. Emerson
After Mr. Emerson died, his wife, Mrs. Emerson inherited Harriet and her husband Dred Scott. Dred pleaded for freedom from Mrs. Emerson, she declined it so he offered to pay, but she wouldn't budge. His case went to court but he couldn't be granted freedom because neither of them had any proof that Mrs. Emerson owned them, so they remained slaves. -
The Retrial
A few years after Dred Scotts case was found not to be a good idea, the Court decided they wanted to have a retrail. In the retrial they declared Dred Scott and all of his family free, rather then being slaves. -
Desicion Reversal
After the retrial, Dred and his family where free and couldn't be happier. Around two years after the retrial, the court decided to bring Scott's case up once more and decided they had made a mistake. This is what led them to go tot the Supreme Court. -
Remarried
Dred Scott's owner died, so his wife inherited Dred and his wife. Shorty after the case, and after her husband died, Ms. Emerson became married again. Because she got remarried, they had to sell Dred and his wife. This is another reson that Peter Blow bought them. -
Rights
Dred and all other slaves, wanted badly to be free. In the year of 1857, 10 years after the complaint was filed, the Supreme Court tookthe situation and had a case. In the end they decided that slaves couldn't have equal rights. -
Dred Scott Decision
Dred Scott was one of many slaves to try and fix the situation they were in. He filed a complaint of some sort, and ten years later they went to the Supreme Court. They declined him the right to sue, and be free. Later they had two more court cases concerning the subject. He made such an impact they named the case after him and nowaays the case is well known and respected. -
Freedom
Dred Got freedom in the year 1858. He didn't get to enjoy being free for long at all. He was only free 9 months before he died. -
Date of Death
Dred Scott passed away in th year of 1858 in St. Louis. He was 63 yars old when he died. His death was caused from Tuberculosis, and now is buried in Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis. -
Harriet Robinson
Harriet, Scott's wife, passed away on the date of June 17, 1876. Se lived longer then her husband by many years. She took care of there children after he passed.
