Daniel Dennett (March 28th, 1942 - Present)

  • Early Life and Schooling

    By 11 he had already become interested in philosophy and knew this was his calling. After school at Phillips Exeter Academy and Wesleyan University, Dennett went on to get his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Harvard University in 1963. From there he went on to get his Ph.D in philosophy at University of Oxford in 1965, thus sparking the beginning of his long and successful career.

    Contribution to the Philosophy of Science

    Dennett is a philosopher with a focus on science, mind, and biology. Most of his significant writings focused on the concept of free will and its relationship to consciousness and personhood.   • Teaching and Spread of Philosophy of Science

    After receiving his Ph.D in philosophy, Dennett was offered a position at University of California, Irvine as a professor. He taught there for six years before receiving an offer from Tufts University where he teaches to this day. At the same time as this, he was also the co-director of Centre of Cognitive Studies. His teaching impacted many individuals then and continue to do so today.
  • Publishing

    Dennett was first published in 1978 with the release of "Brainstorms: Philosophical Essays on Mind and Psychology." This publishing consisted of theories on artificial intelligence and consciousness. After years of publishing books, he released "Darwins Dangerous Idea" which proposed natural selection as mechanical and algorithm process based on Darwinism theory of evolution.
