    The UN was a peace keeping organization located in NYC. The UN began in 1945. The jobs were: Solve disputes between countries, solve disease & hunger problems, improve education, & provide vaccines. 6 parts of the UN are: General Assembly, Economic & Social Council, Court of Justice, Trusteeship, Secretariat- Ski Ban ki-moon, & Security Council. The 5 major countries in the Security Council are the US, UK, France, Russia, & China. The impact was stopping war between other countries in Europe.

    The birthrate in the US increased tremendously, the population went from 9 million to 29 million in the span of 24 years. All of this was to make up for the lost time during the Great Depression & WW2, when it was difficult or too expensive to raise a family. During the 1940s-50s the healthcare for pregnant women and children. The impact was more children were increasing the population.

    Truman Doctrine/ Marshall Plan
    Truman Doctrine- a $400 MILLION US military support for Greece and Turkey to save them from communism
    Marshall Plan- Started by George Marshall, gave $12 billion in aide to rebuild western Eroupe form WW2 to save them from communism in April 1948

    Medicare/Medicaid
    This was started by president Lyndon Johnson. The gov't helps pay the hospital bills of citizens over the age of 65. Medicare covers about half of the health care charges. The impact was older adult s paid mored than three times as much for health insurance as younge people.
    Set up by SSA in 1965. Gave state gov. money to help low income people of all ages with medical bills. The importance Largest source of funding for people with low income. The impact is that benifits vary in diff. states.

    The United States, North and South Vietnam were at war. There were 500,000 United States troops. France ruled Vietnam. There were 2 leaders of Vietnam: Ho Chi Minh & Ni Dunh Drem. SV was Democratics & NV was Communist. The US had search and destroy missions which were missions that took place in the dense jungle of Vietnam causing soliders to go back to the same place over and over again.
  • Robert F. Kennedy's Assassination

    Robert F. Kennedy's Assassination
    RFK was JFK's brother. He was assassinated in Las Angles, Cali at Ambassador Hotel while walking through the kitchen. RFK was killed by Sirhan Sirhan with a .22 millimeter pistol- 3 shots. Sirhan was angry at Kennedy for his support of Israels military. RFK died 2 days after being shot in the head and is berried Arlington Cemetery. Sirhan was found guilty and was originally faced with death sentence but then got life in prison, where he is currently serving this sentence in San Diego prison.

    Kent State Massacre
    This event took place at an Ohio school. It was a peaceful pretest after Nixon's pledge to send troops to Cambodia. The temps were warm so there was thousands of kids. Eventually the police came and began bayoneting and clubbing students. The NG was called in, they showed up in riot gear and were met with hostile chants and rocks.They firied 61 bullets into the crowed, killing 4 students. 25 students and professors were found guilty and the NG was found not guilty or were not blamed at all.

    JR was born in Georgia, but moved to California. He went to UCLA & lettered in 4 sports:Baseball, basketball, track and football. He was drafted in WW2, became a 2nd lieutenant. JR was chosen by Brach Rickey to play for Dodgers.He and his family got threats. He became a World Series champ 1955. JR dies in 1972 of heart complications & diabetes. His impacts were his number, 42, is retired by every single MLB team and JR day is April 15th in the MLB.

    Ronald  Reagan
    Reagan was president of the US from1980-1988. He was a republican, but before he was president he was a movie star and governer of Cali. His impact was he did an operation called Star Wars & spent $100 billion. Reagan loved jelly beans, he acted in over 50 films, and he was a life gaurd on the Rock River in Dixon, IL. There was a failed assassination atempt on him and he said to his wife at the hospital-"Honey I forgot to duck". REagan was part of the USSR Summits.

    United States president from 1988-1993. He was a republican and at first a gov. of Texas. His big impact was September 11, 2001. He did a war on terror, a tax relief, Saddam Hussein was executed, and he started no child left behind program. His favorite snakes are pretzels and he is a Partnering manager of the Texas Rangers.

    Geocities was the first social media cite created. Aol was created in 1997 as an instant messenger. Then "Friendster" and "My Space" came along. Facebook was launched in 2004 for collage students, but it now has over 150 mill. members. Twitter began in 2006 to send short messages. Instagram began in 2010. Snapchat began in 2012. The importance of the social network is it is a way to get to know people. The impact is it has changed the way people interact

    Iraq/ Afghanistan Wars
    The wars started in Oct. 2001 and March 2003. The importance of these wars were the possibiliity of Iraq employing weapons of mass distruction, to protect oil reserves, to make the world safe from terrists, and in response to Sept. 11, 2001, The impacts were: no evidence of weapons of mass distruction found in Iraq, led to the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan with American troops for over a decade, & led to the death of presidents Suddam Hussain & Osama bin Laden.
